COULD THERE BE AWARENESS AFTER WE DIE.

Everyone must at some time in their life think "what happens to me when I die".  Myself I'm thinking that surely its impossible to come from a very dark non existence into existence to have an awareness filled life with its ups and downs and when this life comes to an end we all go back to this black non existence. To me this seems so illogical but I bet a lot of people think its logical.  To come from nowhere to go nowhere is I suppose what an Atheist believes and they are within their rights to think this. Myself I'm thinking that this has to be utterly impossible, first of all to not be, then to be, then to not be again.  I think well what's the point of the "to be" part, this being our awareness time! Very strange this " to be" part as this is our lives. This is when we think thoughts, and when we fall in and out of love. This is when we have children and when we believe in Santa Claus. Is all this to no avail. Is it all a pointless exercise.  I don't think so.  What do you think.

  2. id say it all depends on how much energy u exert. cause energy never dies, just transforms forms

  3. I think it's hard to make sense of an atheist point of view when you look at how amazing life is and how odd it is for something like this to come from nothing.

  4. I don't care what people claim to believe - no-one really KNOWS.

    Death defines life.
It's the never knowing which allows human life to keep striving to evolve.

  5. I think death is like a long nap or sleep. Don't think I'm scared of death right now but whose to say what will happen when I'm actually on my death bed

  6. I peronally think you can't take "near death" shit seriously. Your brain is usually not working properly during near-death and that may cause, depending on the peoples religion to "meet their god".

  7. All I know about this is that it will never be figured out unless they revive a dead person after a couple of days of being dead and without loss of brain cells or damage to the brain, maybe they can explain it.

  8. who knows eh? In this vast swirling universe what is and what isn't? All I hope is, that in the final moments of death, You get to understand the sum of everything. Everything suddenly all fits, and the universe makes sense.

I could go back to nothingness with that kind of knowledge and be happy.

  12. We can never really know what waits on the other side but it doesn't stop LOTS of people from making a living off of promising heaven to those that live a good life.

  13. My opinion on this is too long to post in a comment.

  14. Well I'm not an atheist or even an agnostic. I believe in God, but I don't believe in the afterlife. I think there could be something that could reasonably be called an afterlife, but none of us really know so we might as well make the most of this life.

  18. Possibly there is some kind of consicence.

  19. Your thoughts really remind me of Freud's concept of the death instinct. The idea that every living thing ultimately strives towards it's own death. And it's even a driving concept in literature. But that's another discussion for another day

  20. I like not to think about it. I always get depressed when I realize there probably is nothing when you've died :(

  21. I don't believe in a life after death.

  22. Definatly makes you think about things, but theres no way of knowing till you die so why stress about it! ;D

  23. I believe so and can only hope.

  24. Now I'm lost in thought...

  25. fascinating.. but if it involves religion i disregard it as worthy of listening to.

  26. I personally do not believe in any kind of life after death.

  27. I go back & forth on whether or not there's awareness after death. Because I have loved ones that have passed on, I hope there is.

  28. I think we cease to exist when we die. I hope to god that it's not the case though, I'm not too keen on dying yet! (good thing I'm not going to do that ;))

  30. Don't know anything for sure, just have a hope for something.

  31. Doubt it. I find it very reasonable to think that we come from nothing, exist, then go back to nothing. I don't see why just living warrants you to be able to enter into a different state of awareness when you die and continue to live in some way. Seems unnecessary.

  32. I actually wish we just disappeared when we died.
Then death wouldn't seem so scary...

  33. Ehhhh, I dunno... I think being dead would kinda be like what it was like before you were born. 14 billion years of nothingness.

  34. When I die, I just want to be dead.

  35. I try not to think about it too much, it just gets me down

  36. Mmm, such a scary topic to think about. But besides that, an interesting one too!

  37. I tend to think that all life stems from a pool of energy, and when things die, their souls go back into the pool of energy.

  38. I like to think I a Terry Pratchett mindset. You end up in a place where you believe you will end up.

  39. this is some trippy stuff!

  40. I hope there is some sort of conciousness after death. It would be cool if we could zoom around the universe!!

  41. Some basic synapses perhaps, but extremely doubtful.

  42. Dimensional theories essentially guarantee we're more than we can perceive in our 3rd-5th dimensional perception. Don't know if death cascades all the way to higher dimensions though.

  43. It's really interesting thing. I sometimes think how it's to be on the other side.

  44. I don't believe in things such as being and non-being since non-being would itself be a state of being.

    They are just concepts.

  45. I hope there's nothing after I died ... I don't want to know I'm dead!

  46. Both sides of this arguments make good points.
